The O-Shot® is an injection of platelet-rich plasma (PRP), prepared from a small sample of your own blood, into the tissue around the clitoris and the front wall of the vagina. It is performed personally by Dr. Francis at our Cape May Court House and Gibbsboro offices, and it always begins with a consultation.

What Is an O-Shot?

The O-Shot is a proprietary name for a PRP injection procedure. Your blood is drawn, spun in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets, and the plasma is injected into specific areas of the genital tissue. Nothing is added to the injection — no medication, no filler, no synthetic ingredient. It is entirely your own plasma.

How Does the O-Shot Work?

The theory behind PRP is that concentrated platelets release growth factors that support local tissue repair and blood flow. Whether, and how much, that translates into a change a patient can feel is the open question. The published research on PRP injected into vaginal and clitoral tissue is small, early-stage, and mixed: some studies report improvements in patient-reported measures, others do not, and there is no large, high-quality trial establishing a benefit.

What Patients Ask Us About

Women most often come to us with goals around sensation, arousal, comfort, and confidence during intimacy. Those are reasonable things to want to talk about, and we will talk about them honestly. What we will not do is tell you that an injection treats a medical condition. The O-Shot is not a treatment for any diagnosis, and we do not offer it as one. If you have a medical concern — pain, bleeding, a change in bladder control, or anything else — that needs a medical evaluation first, which is exactly what your consultation with Dr. Francis is. He may recommend that you see your gynecologist or another specialist instead of, or before, any injection.

What the O-Shot Involves

• Your own plasma only. The injection contains platelet-rich plasma prepared from your blood on the day of treatment, with no synthetic additives.
• A short appointment. Including the blood draw and numbing time, most visits take under an hour.
• No surgery and no daily medication. The O-Shot is an office injection procedure. It is not an alternative to medical care for a medical condition.
• Physician-performed. Every O-Shot at South Jersey Aesthetics is performed by Dr. Francis personally.

Who is not a candidate

PRP is not offered to patients who have a bleeding or platelet disorder, who take anticoagulant (blood-thinning) medication, who have an active infection or a cold sore at or near the treatment area, who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or who have a blood-related cancer or any active cancer under treatment. It is also not appropriate for patients who are unwell on the day of treatment, who have taken certain anti-inflammatory or steroid medications shortly before, or who have a history of poor healing or keloid scarring in the treatment area. Patients with an active vaginal or urinary infection, undiagnosed pelvic pain or bleeding, or a history of gynecologic cancer need a medical evaluation before any injection is considered. Every PRP treatment requires an examination and an order from a licensed prescriber first, and we will tell you plainly if PRP is not right for you.

What to Expect From the O-Shot Treatment

Step One: Consultation

Before anything is scheduled, you will have a private consultation with Dr. Francis. He will take your history, discuss your goals and expectations, explain what the evidence does and does not support, and answer your questions. A consultation is required before the O-Shot can be booked.

Step Two: Preparing the PRP

Your blood is drawn by a New Jersey-licensed registered nurse. The sample is the same size as a routine lab draw. It is then processed in a centrifuge for about ten minutes to isolate the platelet-rich plasma.

Step Three: Local Anesthetic

A prescription-strength topical anesthetic is applied to the treatment area and given time to work, so that the injections themselves are as comfortable as possible.

Step Four: Injection Into the Treatment Area

Dr. Francis injects the PRP into the tissue around the clitoris and the front wall of the vagina using a fine needle. The injections take a few minutes.

Step Five: End of Treatment and Recovery

You can typically resume your day without significant downtime. After-effects are usually mild — temporary tenderness, swelling, or spotting at the injection sites — and we will give you written aftercare instructions and a direct way to reach the practice with any concern.

Risks and Side Effects

Every injection carries risk. The most common effects are temporary tenderness, swelling, bruising, and light spotting, which usually settle within a few days. Less common risks include bleeding, infection, a lump or firmness at an injection site, altered sensation, and pain. It is also possible that you notice no change at all.

How Painful Is the O-Shot?

An injection into sensitive tissue can sound daunting. With the topical anesthetic in place, most patients describe pressure rather than pain, and we keep the appointment private and unhurried. Tell us at any point if you are uncomfortable — we will stop.

Where Is the O-Shot Injected?

Into the tissue around the clitoris and into the front (anterior) wall of the vagina. Dr. Francis will explain exactly where and why at your consultation.

How Soon Can I Resume Sex After the O-Shot?

Dr. Francis will give you individual guidance. Most patients are advised to wait a short period — typically a few days — to allow the injection sites to settle.

When Can I Expect Results?

Responses vary widely. Some patients report a change within a few weeks; for others it takes longer, and some report no change. Results are not guaranteed.

How Often Should I Receive the O-Shot?

There is no fixed schedule. Most patients have a single treatment and then decide with Dr. Francis whether a repeat is worthwhile based on what they experienced. We will tell you if we do not think a further treatment is likely to help.
